First, which part is which
The roof edge has parts with names, and knowing them helps you read a quote. Fascia: the vertical face. Soffit: the underside. Eave: the whole projecting edge.You will not need this vocabulary often, but it appears in every estimate, and quotes are hard to compare when you are not sure what is being described. When somebody says the channel mounts under the soffit, you know exactly what they mean.
Why the track goes there
The mounting line is not an aesthetic preference, it is where several requirements meet. The eave runs the full width of the house, so a run there has length to work with. Height gives you reach down the facade, and the overhang gives the hardware cover from the worst of the weather.

The lower run lights the approach. Running both is often the answer, though it does not have to happen in the same year.
